A Brief history of Chocolate July 2017

To keep up-to-date with all that is taking place in the world of food, drink, design and fashion, we often take ourselves off to the various fairs and trade shows that take place around the UK throughout the year.

One of the best shows we have been to recently is the Harrogate Food Show, in Yorkshire. Denise and Gemma travelled up to the show and discovered some great new items for our deli and market. Not to mention, some of the ingredients and ideas that will soon be making an appearance on the menu.

One of the highlights of the visit was a chance meeting with James Cadbury, the founder of Love Cocoa https://www.facebook.com/onelovecocoa/. James has his roots firmly in the UK’s great chocolate making heritage - his great, great, great grandfather was the founder of Cadbury’s chocolate. It is no surprise that Love Cocoa has found its way onto our shelves and into Gemma’s Mocha, Walnut Viennese Whirls and it seems obvious that James’ ability to create wonderful chocolate has its roots in a 200-year-old family tradition.

Well, at the Deli we have the whole bundle, from the utensils and equipment needed for the perfect picnic through to the ingredients that make eating al fresco such a delightful treat. Convenience, quality and choice are the three watchwords we live by, so for people who just want to collect their picnic and head to the festival, we offer a hamper service – you tell us what you want and we pack it in a lovely hamper for you.

If you prefer to browse and choose your items on the day, then our deli counter has to be the starting point. Scrumptious sausage rolls, moreish Scotch eggs, a range of olives, hummus and peppers, filled rolls and sandwiches in a variety of breads, including gluten-free, more sweet treats than you can imagine – this is picnic fare at its very best.

And of course, every festival should be a celebration, so whether gin, champagne, craft beer or wine is your tipple of choice, we have a great range of drinks to suit every occasion.

We also stock funky picnic plates, dishes, glasses and blankets. In fact, we really are a one-stop picnic shop.
